Ration Card New Rules 2025: Big Changes Announced For Cardholders!

2025 is expected to bring many new regulations apropos of ration cards that ensure proper and transparent access to beneficiaries under various government schemes. The rules, however, will have a direct bearing on millions of households. Here are the new rules of ration card and their effect.

E-KYC mandatory

The e-KYC process has been made compulsory for all ration cardholders of the state. In order to ensure their identity, the process is carried out to link the ration card with the Aadhar card. March 31, 2025, is the deadline for e-KYC. For not doing this, the ration card can be canceled. E-KYC would be done in two ways. They are as follows:

  • Online process: Log in to the state’s Public Distribution System (PDS) portal and link it with the Aadhar card;
  • Offline process: Visit the nearest ration shop or Common Service Center (CSC) and get e-KYC done with Aadhar card and ration card.

Change In Land Ownership Limit

There is a change in the land ownership limit for eligibility for ration card. Previously, the conditions were such that families would have had rations if their land was less than 3 hectares, but this has been reduced to 2 hectares. It aims to bring the assistance from the government towards the most needed households.

New Benefits And Schemes

According to a notification from the government, new benefits have been tied to ration cards from 25 March 2025. These might cover additional food security schemes and products of government subsidy. There is no detailed information about these benefits from the government. Beneficiaries are advised to check the updates in the government portal from time to time.

Changes In Ration Distribution Policy

There have been changes in the ration distribution policy in the year 2025. Only selected needy families will receive ration free of cost. This decision has been made to utilize the best resource and to prioritize the underprivileged section.

Ban On Fake Ration Cards

The government has taken very strict steps to mitigate fake ration cards. The linking of ration card to Aadhar card would help in identifying false beneficiaries, and the government schemes’ benefits would reach the right people.

Conclusion
