An increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) has been announced for central government employees and pensioners in 2025. The government increased DA and DR by 2%, effective from January 1, 2025. Central government employees are to be paid arrears for January, February, and March 2025 along with the salary of April 2025. Employees drawing a basic pay of ₹18,000 will get an increase of ₹360 per month, thus making the three-month arrears an amount of ₹1,080. For pensioners, the increase in pension is ₹180 per month on an old pension of ₹9,000, thus making a total of ₹5402 account of arrears.

This increase will impose an annual burden of ₹6,614.04 crore on the government. This decision has been taken in view of inflation and price index fluctuations keeping the real income of employees and pensioners intact.
Future DA Hike
The next DA hike will be for July-December 2025, which will be announced in October-November 2025 and will thereafter be merged into the basic pay when recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission are implemented, thereby altering the pay structure.
How To Check Arrears
Employees can check the pay slip for April 2025, which will be listing the DA separately. They will have to correlate the amount of salary credited in April 2025 into the bank with that of the previous month’s salary. Additionally, this information can be checked on some online portals or by contacting department HR.
